In this traveling program, you'll learn from some of the best fashion and design minds in the world, beginning at Parsons Paris – The New School, and continuing on to finish the program in Florence at Polimoda.

Luxury Design and Management is a specialized summer program that focuses on the essence, the heritage and the organization of high-end industries. Through a combination of lectures, interactions with industry professionals, atelier visits, experiential workshops and team work, students learn about the French and Italian leading luxury sectors, while providing them with an interdisciplinary introduction of their processes and specificities at the crossroads of design innovation, business and culture.

Application Requirements

  • Minimum 2.75 G.P.A.
  • Completed API application
  • Official Transcript
  • University Approval Form (U.S. applicants only)
  • Open to university-level juniors, seniors, and adult learners
  • Non-native English speakers must provide TOEFL scores of 79 or above or IELTS scores of 6.5 or above to show proof of English proficiency
  • Entry requirements for US and EU passport holders: a valid passport
  • Entry requirements for all other international students: consult the French Consulate in your home country
  • Students who are currently enrolled at The New School will not be required to submit a letter of recommendation, official transcript or university contact information form

This program offers a series of cultural events and day trips in both cities.

  • Cultural Events and Day Trips

    During the program, students have the opportunity to broaden their classroom education through organized cultural events and day trips, which are included in the price of the program. Although locations are subject to change depending on availability, weather and other factors, students are provided with an itinerary for their program events prior to departure.

    Possible cultural events in Paris include:

    • Picnics and tastings (French pastries, cheeses, crepes)
    • Local tours (Quartier Latin, Hidden Marais, Pere Lachaise)
    • Visits to museums (Musee de la Mode, Louvre)
    • Visits to famous landmarks (Notre-Dame, Eiffel Tower, Montmartre)
    • Visits to local markets, the ballet, and/or the theater!

    Possible cultural events in Florence include:

    • Cooking class & Tastings (Pasta, Pizza, and Wine)
    • Local tours (S. Frediano, S. Niccolo, Piazzale Michelangelo)
    • Visits to museums (Duomo Museum, Uffizi Gallery)
    • Visits to famous landmarks (Old Bridge, Palazzo Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, etc)
    • Visits to local markets, the ballet and/or the theater!
  • Under the Tuscan Sun

    Experience the best that the Tuscan region has to offer! Have the chance to explore Siena and more cities in the surrounding area, enjoy thermal baths, and top off your experience with a wine tasting in the famous Chianti region.

What You’ll Study

API students have an unprecedented opportunity to learn from some of the best fashion and design minds in the world through study in this traveling program between Paris and Florence. Students begin in Paris at Parsons Paris – The New School, and then continue on to finish the program in Florence at Polimoda.

Parsons Paris is a registered branch campus of The New School and is accredited by MSCHE—Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE, 3624 Market Street, 2nd Floor West, Philadelphia, PA 19104; 216.284.5000), a federally recognized body, since 1960. Parsons Paris is recognized by the French Ministry of Higher Education as an Établissement d'enseignement supérieur privé.

Polimoda is recognized worldwide for its high-quality fashion education. Listed among the best fashion schools in the world, the school boasts over 36 years of experience in education specialized in the fashion and luxury sectors. Its esteemed executive staff features Ferruccio Ferragamo (President), Massimiliano Giornetti (Director), Linda Loppa (Strategy and Vision Advisor). Among its partners are industry leaders such as LVMH, Richemont, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tod’s, Microsoft Garage and many others. The Polimoda faculty is composed of professionals from the industry providing flexible, high-quality training that responds to the fast-moving needs of fashion.

Polimoda has three prestigious locations in Florence with the latest professional equipment where students can work in an environment committed to the realities of the industry.

TRANSCRIPTS

Upon completion of the program, API students will receive a transcript for 6 credits issued by the Registrar’s Office and carry the signature and seal of The New School.

Students have the option of living in shared apartments that are located throughout Paris and Florence. Most are designed to house 4 students in double-occupancy bedrooms, though some may be larger. Meals are not provided, however, apartments are equipped with kitchen appliances, linens, and towels. Students can choose to opt out of program housing either in Paris or Florence (or in both locations) for a deduction from the program cost.
