API students participate in several excursions per session designed to help familiarize them with areas of their host city, country, and surrounding region. The following is a listing of all excursions for API London programs. All excursions are subject to change.

  • A Historic Royal Palace

Explore one of the many historic royal palaces in and around London! These palaces show the extravagant wealth of the previous and current royal families of England and hold collections of art, furniture and jewels that are truly priceless. The buildings themselves are also marvels of architecture and show how each palace was adapted and redesigned for each monarch.

  • Stonehenge & Bath

This API excursion offers students the chance to see one of the wonders of the world, Stonehenge. Everyone has heard of Stonehenge, but mystery still shrouds it from how the stones made it to their final resting place to the exact purpose of the site. After exploring one of the best prehistoric sites in Europe, students will be off to Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here students can travel through time, exploring what Bath may have been like during the Roman Occupation through the Roman Baths or explore the Georgian Architecture and Fashion of Jane Austen’s time.

  • Wales Weekend

Wales has more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the world. Every hill, church or standing stone has a story all of its own. Cardiff, the capital city is the location of many Dr. Who scenes, and the Welsh countryside is home to picturesque abbeys and castles painted by many artists through the centuries.

  • Edinburgh

Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital city, with a skyline that is dominated by the impressive 12th century Edinburgh Castle, perched on an extinct volcano and occupied since the 9th-century BC (!). Edinburgh’s streets, whether in the medieval Old Town or the Georgian New Town, are steeped in history and are home also to the Scottish Parliament, The Palace of Holyrood House, the Royal Mile, the Royal Yacht Britannia and Arthur’s Seat. Edinburgh has a thriving cultural scene and you can also visit The Elephant House coffee shop where J.K. Rowling wrote the early Harry Potter books! Just outside Edinburgh is the enigmatic 15th-century Rosslyn Chapel, of Da Vinci Code fame, where practically every surface of the chapel is covered with stone carvings of figures and scenes and the atmosphere is one of deep mystery.

London is a large city, so all students can expect to use public transportation (i.e. tube or bus) to move around the city on a daily basis, both getting to school and for social/cultural activities. It is a part of life in London. Generally, it will take students 20-45 minutes to get to school from their housing via public transportation or walking. All housing will be located in Zones 1 and 2 on the tube map.

Students will be housed in student apartments. Most apartments have several single rooms with a shared living room and kitchen. Some have en suite bathrooms in each bedroom while others have shared bathrooms. The kitchens are equipped with ovens, stoves, microwaves, and refrigerators. Wireless Internet is provided in all flats. A weekly cleaning service is provided to the communal kitchen/living areas in all API London accommodations.

We may place students in a few different student apartment buildings depending on where they are taking classes. We will prioritize having students share an apartment with other API students, but it is possible that API students would share an apartment with non-API students.

Note: Housing between the fall and spring semesters is not included. Meals are not included in these housing options.
