  • Edinburgh

Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city, is one of the greenest and most beautiful cities in Europe, attested to by the 2 million visitors it receives each year. It is built on a jumble of hills and valleys and has an extinct volcano 823 feet high in the heart of the city. This volcano is known as Arthur’s Seat and it is possible for the more active to climb to the summit, from which the views of Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside are spectacular. One of the city's most distinctive and most visited landmarks is Edinburgh Castle, perched high up in the city centre on the craggy remains of another extinct volcano. It was believed to have been the site of an Iron Age fort. It is still in use by the British army. From The Castle, The Royal Mile leads down past many medieval buildings to the new Scottish Parliament. Next to Parliament is the Palace of Holyrood House, which is the Queen's Scottish residence and the scene of royal garden parties in the Summer. It was also home to the infamous Mary Queen of Scots. and welcomes visitors to tread in the steps of the royals.

  • A Historic Royal Palace

Explore one of the many historic royal palaces in and around London! These palaces show the extravagant wealth of the previous and current royal families of England and hold collections of art, furniture and jewels that are truly priceless. The buildings themselves are also marvels of architecture and show how each palace was adapted and redesigned for each monarch.

  • Stonehenge & Bath

This API excursion offers students the chance to see one of the wonders of the world, Stonehenge. Everyone has heard of Stonehenge, but mystery still shrouds it from how the stones made it to their final resting place to the exact purpose of the site. After exploring one of the best prehistoric sites in Europe, students will be off to Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here students can travel through time, exploring what Bath may have been like during the Roman Occupation through the Roman Baths or explore the Georgian Architecture and Fashion of Jane Austen’s time.

Highlights
  • Special guided visits to the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris

London is a large city, so all students can expect to use public transportation (i.e. tube or bus) to move around the city on a daily basis, both getting to school and for social/cultural activities. It is a part of life in London. Generally, it will take students 20-45 minutes to get to school from their housing via public transportation or walking. Housing will be located in Zones 1, 2, or 3 on the tube map.

Students will be housed in student apartments. Most apartments have several single rooms with a shared living room and kitchen. Some have ensuite bathrooms in each bedroom, while others have shared bathrooms. The kitchens are equipped with ovens, stoves, microwaves, and refrigerators. Wireless Internet is provided in all flats.

We may place students in a few different student apartment buildings depending on where they are taking classes. We will prioritize having students share an apartment with other API students, but it is possible that API students would share an apartment with non-API students.
