What You’ll Study

TOTAL CREDITS - 4 credits per month session

The intensive month session provides a general overview of French language study for all levels for those who wish to study abroad in Paris for a short-term. Students attend French language classes according to their level and ability.

The intensive month is offered in January. Students take 21 hours of class per week for a total of 63 contact hours, or 4 semester credits. The classes take place every morning, Monday through Friday, and Tuesday/Thursday afternoons.

The Intensive Month session can also be added to a semester program, providing an excellent means by which to improve French language proficiency prior to starting semester studies.

Overnight excursions are not included in the cost of the intensive month sessions but can be added for an extra fee when available.

Highlights
  • Classes taught in French
  • Jan-term available
  • Combine multiple intensive months in other API locations and/or an API internship program to create a custom quarter program

Students who choose to live with families are provided with five breakfast meals and two dinner meals per week with the family. Host families serve as a unique introduction into French culture and may be made up of a married couple with children, retirement-age couples, or a divorced or widowed woman with or without children. Most families live in apartments with 2-4 bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a living/dining area. In some cases, there may be another API or international student in the same apartment. While most family placements offer a single room, some students share a double room.

Students also have the option of living in shared apartments that are located throughout Paris. Most are designed to house 4 students in double-occupancy bedrooms, though some may be larger. Meals are not provided, however, apartments are equipped with kitchen appliances.

Students in the dorm generally live in single rooms. Some rooms may be equipped with a sink, though students share bathroom and kitchen facilities. Most of the other students in the dorm are American. Students who select the dorm option are responsible for their own meals.
